The study uses information gathered from 550 people who plan on undergoing plastic surgery, 260 people who originally wanted plastic surgery but ultimately decide not to push through with the procedure, and 1,000 people who were never interested in plastic surgery.

The researchers presented several psychological statements such as “All of my problems will be solved,” “I will be a completely new person,” and “I want to develop more self-esteem.” 12% of the respondents felt that the first two statements were unrealistic.
